These delicious caramel toffee squares have the perfect blend of caramel and chocolate flavour layered on top of a golden brown buttery crust. These squares are my husband’s absolute favourite. He calls them “Grandma Squares” because when he was growing up his grandma would always have these on hand when the grandkids came over.
These squares are quick and simple to make and they freeze really well. They are easy to keep on hand in the freezer to pull out when guests come over or to use in school lunches. If you need another simple recipe for school lunches check out my chocolate chip cookie recipe here.
Now let’s get started!
You don’t need a lot of equipment. Just a 9×9 pan to bake in, a sauce pan and some measuring cups.
First off we have the bottom layer of the squares. You will mix together the butter, flour and sugar directly in your 9×9 pan and bake until it’s a nice golden brown.

The middle layer is a gooey, creamy caramel toffee mixture. Simply add all the ingredients to a saucepan and bring it to a boil and then pour the mixture over the crust. Let it cool in the fridge before adding the third layer.

The chocolatey top layer completes these squares perfectly. My husband personally likes a little less chocolate than the recipe calls for so I usually don’t add the full amount but this can be easily adjusted to however you like it! Simply melt the chocolate on the stove or in the microwave and spread over top of the cooled first and second layer.

And there you have it! Easy and delicious squares that will surely be a crowd pleaser!
